Software license models support the underlying calculations performed by Software License Optimization solutions on an application to determine license consumption. For example, device based licenses are counted based on the number of unique devices where the application is installed. User based licenses are counted based on the number of unique users that have the application installed. Concurrent licenses are counted based on the number simultaneous users. Software license metrics such as capacity or concurrent models are impossible to calculate or reconcile without an automated solution.
The number of license models supported by your Software License Optimization solution is critical to managing the entire software estate.

When evaluating Software License Optimization solutions, it’s important to drill into the actual logic that is supporting the license metric(s). The logic assigned to each of the software license metrics is how the product will get counted. If the metric your software uses isn’t supported or the logic is incorrect, you won’t get an accurate count of the licenses used for that software product.
